Garlic Strength Guide
Garlic Strength Guide: Choose the Right spred for Every Dish
Most garlic spreads, garlic butters and garlic pastes sold in UK supermarkets contain less than 10% garlic — some as low as 2–5%. This is why they taste weak, artificial or overly buttery.
spred is different. Our garlic strengths start at 20% — already 2–10x stronger than most products on the market — and increase to 40% and 60% for deeper, richer, stoneground garlic flavour.
This guide helps you choose the perfect strength for garlic bread, pasta, roast potatoes, vegetables, marinades, BBQ and more.
Why spred has three garlic strengths
Every home cook wants garlic their way. Some prefer a soft garlic warmth; others want a punch of flavour. With spred, you control intensity with pure cold-stoneground garlic — not artificial flavourings.
All strengths share the same benefits:
- 2–6x more garlic than typical garlic butters & pastes
- 100% plant-based and vegan
- Gluten-free and dairy-free
- Cold-stoneground garlic for a fresh, natural aroma
- No preservatives, no artificial colours or flavours
- Made in the UK
- Suitable for freezing; store at 0–8°C once opened
The spred flavour scale
| Strength | Garlic Level | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 20% | Mild but still 2–4× stronger than most garlic spreads | Garlic bread, veg, sandwiches, family meals |
| 40% | Rich everyday garlic; 4–8× supermarket levels | Pasta, potatoes, stir-fries, general cooking |
| 60% | Intense, bold garlic for garlic lovers | Marinades, roasts, BBQ, stuffing, mushrooms |
20% spred – Smooth, subtle & still stronger than supermarket garlic butter
Most supermarket garlic butters contain under 10% garlic. spred 20% already doubles that — giving you cleaner, fresher flavour with a soft, buttery feel.
Perfect for:
- Garlic bread with a gentle garlic hit
- Sandwiches & toasties
- Vegetables
- Kids or lighter dishes
Ingredients (20%) include: vegetable oils, 20% garlic, parsley, water, coconut fat, emulsifier, faba bean preparation, salt, natural flavourings, beta carotene.
40% spred – Balanced, versatile & far richer than typical garlic spreads
With 40% garlic, this version has 4–8× the garlic of most garlic butters. Expect full, rounded garlic flavour without harshness or artificial notes.
Perfect for:
- Pasta or gnocchi
- Roast potatoes
- Garlic bread with more depth
- Stir-fries
- Everyday cooking
Ingredients (40%) include: vegetable oils, 40% garlic, parsley, water, coconut fat, emulsifier, faba bean preparation, salt, natural flavourings, beta carotene.
60% spred – Intense, bold & for true garlic lovers
At 60% garlic, this is one of the strongest garlic spreads in the UK market. It delivers deep, savoury garlic heat that stands up extremely well in marinades, roasts and BBQ.
Perfect for:
- Turkey, chicken or vegetable marinades
- BBQ grilling
- Stuffing, gravies & roast dinners
- Garlic mushrooms
- High-flavour dishes
Ingredients (60%) include: 60% garlic, vegetable oils, parsley, water, coconut fat, emulsifier, faba bean preparation, salt, natural flavourings, beta carotene.
Which strength should I choose?
- If you want gentle garlic → choose 20%
- If you want balanced everyday garlic → choose 40%
- If you love strong garlic → choose 60%
Many customers buy two strengths — one for spreading, one for cooking.
Conversion guide: spred vs fresh garlic
Because typical garlic spreads are diluted with 90%+ fats and fillers, the conversion is very different.
- 1 tsp spred 60% ≈ 1 garlic clove
- 1.5–2 tsp spred 40% ≈ 1 garlic clove
- 2–3 tsp spred 20% for a mild clove equivalent
